Research Assistant at the Swiss School of Public Governance:


80%-100%, Zurich, fixed-term:


The Swiss School of Public Governance (SSPG) at ETH Zurich enhances critical public administration capabilities by teaching relevant competencies to public officials and other professionals working in areas of public governance and management.

For that purpose, it combines global perspectives with Switzerland's experience on governance issues.

The SSPG is part of the Department of Management, Technology and Economics (D-MTEC), but draws on the strengths of various departments of the ETH Zurich and works in close cooperation with other institutions and centres.


We are looking for a research assistant (not a PhD student) who contributes to our research activities in the fields of public, non-profit, and higher education management.

Starting date is September 1, 2023, or upon mutual agreement.


Job description:


You will support the SSPG team in its research activities focusing on translational research that covers issues around the public and non-profit sectors with a focus on higher education institutions.

In close collaboration with the academic director and the executive director, you will mainly work on the following tasks:


  • Collection, preparation and analysis of both qualitative and quantitative data
  • Writing of project reports, working papers and articles
  • Participation in outreach activities, including the transfer of results in various forms and media (e.g. oral presentations, social media)
  • Contribution to the development of a research strategy
  • Participation in networking activities and in the acquisition of thirdparty funding as well as translational research projects
  • Maintaining relationships with potential donors
  • Possibility to engage in the existing and developing continuing education portfolio of the SSPG

Your profile:


  • You hold a master's degree (or equivalent) in the fields of business administration, public management, social and political sciences, or a related field
  • You have experience in conducting research in those fields, especially in preparing and analysing qualitative and/or quantitative data
  • You have an excellent written and oral command of German and English; a good command of French is an advantage
  • You have good organisational and communication skills, are reliable as well as detail oriented
  • You work well independently and well with others in a team
  • You are motivated to enhancing your research skills and being involved throughout the entire research process
  • You bring enthusiasm for the public and nonprofit sectors, especially higher education institutions. Ideally, you have already gained initial experience in these fields.
